A Masters swimmer should meet the following standard to join a Masters swimming program:
1. **Basic Swim Competency**: Swimmers must be able to swim continuously for at least 50-100 meters using any stroke. This ensures a basic level of swimming proficiency and comfort in the water.
2. **Understanding of Swim Techniques**: While swimmers do not need to master all strokes, they should have a basic understanding of freestyle, and at least one other stroke (backstroke, breaststroke, or butterfly). The program will help further refine these skills.
3. **Endurance and Safety**: Swimmers should be able to swim for an extended period without stopping, indicating a minimum level of endurance. They must also be comfortable in deep water and capable of treading water.
4. **Willingness to Improve**: The swimmer should have a desire to improve technique, fitness, or competitive skills. This includes being open to coaching, feedback, and structured workouts.
5. **Physical Fitness**: The swimmer should have a level of fitness that allows participation in group training sessions, which may include interval sets and drills.
This program caters to a wide range of abilities, so while competitive speed isn't necessary, the swimmer should meet the basic physical and technical requirements to safely participate in organized practices.
