Post Meet Wrap Up: Goldfin Winter Whiteout + Race Series #3

March 25, 2025

The last weekend of January was a true test of endurance, resilience, and team spirit for the Saskatoon Lasers. With fast racing, loud team cheers, and an undeniable sense of camaraderie, our athletes pushed through a long weekend of racing.

Some athletes arrived at the pool as early as 7:00 A.M. for the morning session, caught a quick break at home for lunch and a nap, and then returned for an evening session that stretched until 10:00 P.M.. The commitment didn’t waver—even those battling colds showed up to race, and many stayed late into the night to compete in relays alongside their teammates. That’s the kind of dedication that defines this team!

This meet also marked an exciting milestone as our Masters athletes raced under the Saskatoon Lasers banner for the first time.  It was incredible to see them in action, embracing the competition and we're eager to watch this program grow with more involvement in the future!

Our age-group athletes faced an additional challenge: a tough week of training leading into the meet. Competing while fatigued is never easy, but it’s an essential skill in swimming. No athlete will ever race in perfect conditions at their biggest meet of the year. Sickness, stress, exhaustion, or unexpected setbacks can arise—but learning to race through adversity is an amazing skill.  As Mark Epp said "Maximize your experience" and when you do that, the outcome will take care of itself.

With priority meets soon to come, now is the time to dial in on the details. Sleep, nutrition, and hydration are key to staying healthy and performing at your peak. For those targeting Canada Games Priority Times, we saw some outstanding progress toward those times—be sure to check in and see where you stand.

Let’s keep the momentum going!
