Meet Wrap Up: Regina Invitational (Jan 17-19)

January 24, 2025

Hello TEAM,

It may have been extremely cold outside, this past weekend in Regina, but inside the Lawson Aquatic Center, the LASERS were on fire! First it was GREAT to see so many LASER athletes across all groups, JAG, TAG and HP, make the trip to Regina to race at our first long course meet of the season. Second it was GREAT to see the athletes cheering and all the TEAM support present on deck from our kids. Finally, it was GREAT to see so many outstanding results!

The first long course meet of the year historically tends to be a challenge for age group swimmers as they transition from short course (25meter pool) to long course (50meter pool). Keep in mind most of their long course best times were from last season when they were at their best, most likely swimming in a FAST pool, while they were rested, tapered and ready to race, possibly at a championship meet. The first long course meet usually doesn't see too many best times, especially for the older athletes, unless its an event they have neglected or the athlete has had a growth spurt etc. At this meet however we saw so much GREAT swimming from across all groups and with 43 athletes attending the meet we had 245 best times - that's an average of more than 5 PBs per swimmer. Along with that there were many athletes who stepped out of their comfort zone and raced some harder events for the first time, 1500FR, 800FR, 400IM!!!  Way to go TEAM - big congrats to you all,  you made your coaches proud and what a way to start of the new year - lets keep up the positive and productive training while looking ahead to Junior As and Man/Sask.
